Chicago Public Schools standards are established by various Board departments in working collaboration with local, state, and national organizations as they relate to specific educational  areas. These standards reflect requirements and act as guidelines to the Chicago Public Schools as mandated by of the Board of Education of the City of Chicago.

Computer Hardware Standards are now published on a quarterly basis through the Strategic Sourcing Initiative. All recommended equipment may be found at the Strategic Sourcing Equipment Vendors

CPS Network Management Guidelines, 2004. (PDF, 1.73MB)  The Chicago Public Schools’ Network Management Guidelines define a network infrastructure that provides secure, available, and reliable data for all end-users connected to the Chicago Public Schools’ Wide Area Network (WAN).  This document is intended for Technology Coordinators, Network Administrators, Network Engineers, Strategic Sourcing vendors and all others who are responsible for the configuration, management, or support of the CPS network environment.

CPS Infrastructure Standards Handbook, 2006. The standard manual will be used as a guideline for implementing local area network (LAN) technology at the schools.

Minimum Hardware, Software and Network Standards Fall 2004 Update - (PDF, 577 KB)
The Standards represent the requirements for computer software and hardware configurations that will function properly and be supported within CPS' network environment.

Long Distance Guidelines, 2004.
The Chicago Board of Education Long Distance Services Guidelines is a set of procedures for Board members, employees and consultants (END USERS). These guidelines are intended to cover routine long distance communication related to the performance of an END USER’s regular duties and to aid the Board in achieving any cost efficiencies available. These guidelines also establish procedures for the acquisition, administration and use of long distance services.

Password Guidelines, 2004.
To gain access to Chicago Public Schools’ (CPS) Instructional (INSTR) and Administrative (ADMIN) domains, which provide access to CPS network resources, all users must adhere to the password requirements and policies as outlined in this document.
