MISSION

To create and maintain comfortable environments conducive to student learning through managing the highest quality janitorial services, monitoring CPS' gas and electricity usages in an effort to identify and implement cost saving measures and providing beautiful exterior landscape improvements.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Developed and managed the system wide blitz inspection and cleaning program
  • Established custodial inspection program that further defined a baseline of school building cleanliness
  • Provided $2 million of exterior beautification projects to 48 schools
  • In partnership with the engineers’ union local 143 and Healthy Schools Campaign, held training for engineers on maintaining a safe, clean and healthy school
  • Established natural gas procurement strategy that enhanced budget certainty by fixing prices on 60% of supplies required over three years

2004-2005 Goals

  • Implement district wide monitoring of energy usage with reduction strategy incentives
  • Improve cleaning of school facilities – i.e.; conduct annual custodial training program
  • Implement Green Cleaning initiative
  • Conduct annual engineer training program
  • Capital improvement investments
  • Initiate Indoor Air Quality program
  • Continue to work with Food Services, to monitor school cleanliness and rodent prevention
  • Assist with school wide paper recycling program
