MISSION

To provide students participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), After-School Meal Program, and Summer Feeding Program with nutritious and appealing meals and meet city, state, and federal regulations, and to ensure the timely and efficient distribution of mail and materials to school units and administrative offices.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Provided 411,000 meals daily to students participating in the NSLP and After-School Meal Programs.
  • Increased breakfast participation by 1%.
  • Utilized over $12 million of donated food commodities if FY 2004 compared to $10 million in FY 2003.
  • Distributed 7,545,986 pounds of mail and materials to school units and administrative offices.
  • Implemented new verification procedures on student eligibility that ensured that student eligibility was properly determined.

2004 – 2005 GOALS

  • Continue converting prepackaged receiving schools to on-site warming or full service kitchens.
  • Continue efficient utilization of donated commodities.
  • Increase student participation in the school breakfast program by an additional 1%.
  • Implement new healthy snack policy and healthy beverage contract.
  • Increase the number of schools offering a breakfast program.
