Arne Duncan Education advocates from across Illinois gathered in Springfield on May 2 to call for reforming education funding. This is a historic moment for Illinois, and we do not want to miss this opportunity. I’d like to thank everyone who took the time and effort to lend their voice to this important cause by joining me and thousands of high school students, community groups, religious leaders and parents at the rally at the State Capitol.

If you weren’t able to attend the rally, I urge you to call your legislators and tell them why it's so important for our children and our future. A strong Chicago outcry will reinforce the critical importance of this issue and offers you a chance to participate in a momentous public debate.

We have a chance to make history, and we do not want to miss the opportunity to help create the school system our children need and deserve.

Sincerely,

Arne Duncan

Teacher for a Day is a joint venture between the Chicago Teachers Union and the Chicago Public Schools and will take place on Tuesday, May 15, 2007.  The purpose of Teacher for a Day is for business and community members to gain a better understanding of and develop a deeper appreciation of the work Chicago Public Schools' teachers provide each school day. This year it will be a pilot taking place in 24 select CPS schools. The day will consist of volunteers co-teaching a lesson prepared by the teacher, observing a class, assisting a class by working with groups of students, picking up students at the beginning of the day from the bus, working in the lunchroom and many other activities.
